RETAIL DESIGN

Store concepts and spatial planning for retail

CONCEPT

STORE CONCEPTS

Retail design – also referred to as store design – describes the conceptual development of retail spaces within shopfitting and retail fit-out projects. Spaces are designed so that brand identity, product presentation and customer flow work together as an integrated spatial concept.

IMA develops store concepts for retail environments, brand spaces and showrooms. The result is retail spaces that stage brands within the physical environment while providing clear orientation throughout the store.

SPACE PLANNING

RETAIL SPACES

In retail design, spatial layouts, customer flow and presentation zones are defined at an early stage.

Retail spaces are planned to provide clear orientation, strong product accessibility and efficient use of space.

IMA takes the entire customer journey into account – from the shop window through to the checkout area. The result is functional retail environments with clear customer flow and a clear spatial structure.

SPACE PLANNING

BRAND IN SPACE

Retail design combines architectural planning with brand communication. Colours, materials, lighting and presentation systems are aligned with the corporate design and overall brand strategy.

IMA coordinates all design elements closely with the responsible teams on the client side. The result is retail spaces in which brand, product and spatial design form a coherent overall concept that can be transferred across different store formats.

VISUALISATION

PLANNING AND PRESENTATION

Store concepts are refined through visualisations, technical drawings and material sampling. This planning phase creates a reliable basis for investment decisions and project approvals.

IMA creates photorealistic 3D visualisations that enable a realistic representation of the planned retail space already during the concept phase.

CONCEPT AND IMPLEMENTATION

At IMA, store concepts are linked to technical implementation from the very beginning. Construction, material selection and production requirements are already taken into account during the concept phase.

This creates a planning process that connects design and technical implementation at an early stage.

APPLICATION AREAS

RETAIL DESIGN FOR RETAIL ENVIRONMENTS

Store concepts structure retail environments – from individual brand stores and flagship stores through to large-scale rollout and store network concepts.

Typical application areas include:

  • flagship stores and brand spaces
  • retail spaces and specialist stores
  • shop-in-shop areas areas within existing stores
  • showrooms for product presentation
  • store network concepts for multiple locations

Depending on the project, IMA also integrates digital presentation formats such as displays, interactive product information systems and click-and-collect areas. Brand presentation, orientation and the retail experience are combined into a coherent spatial concept.
